A Photographer in the Age of Smartphones
As of late, I only really take pictures using my phone. I do have a decent digital camera, but I almost ever use it because most of my photos are very spur of the moment. When I was younger and mostly took pictures with my camera, I did try to get certain emotions across in my photos, although I’m not sure how often I actually succeeded. I thought they portrayed the emotions I wanted, but I never really showed them to anyone else to get their opinion on them.
New my photos usually consist of one of two things: clouds or animals, neither of which evoke much emotion beyond “that’s pretty” or “aw”. I also just like taking pictures of nature in general. I’m pretty much a homebody so when I do go out into nature I like to take pictures of it so that I can bring it into my space through pictures. I like clouds because although they look very similar, if you catch them at the right moment there can be something unique about them: a towering shape or the colors of the sunset bleed into them. Although they do not evoke any particular emotion, I like to think my pictures a pretty decent. Even if others do not like them, I do and they make me happy to see them.
