Supergirl Commentary

Supergirl Commentary

After reading on video analysis, I decided to take a look at show I wasn’t familiar with and watch the first episode so that I could look at it with a clean slate. I ended up choosing Supergirl because I’ve been looking to start the series anyways but had not had the chance to yet. I watched the first episode and then went back and chose a few scenes to discuss.

To be honest, I struggled with this most not because of the analysis, but I had the hardest time editing this. I don’t know if it was a problem with me, my computer, or the programs, but I had to try a few programs before I found one that mostly worked and even then I still struggled and had to fight the editing software every step of the way. Besides that, I found this very interesting. I had never given things like camera angles and placement during commentary much thought, but watching all the other analysis videos made me realize how small changes to make a world of difference, Even something as simple a chair can change to whole message of a scene. In this commentary, I discussed the lack of focus and ambiguity of Superman and well as the use of red and camera angles within this first episode. They were all little things that I would have never given much thought to before this week, but now I can see the different artistic choices that were made and how they helped the story progress.
